Etienne Vatelot

Etienne Vatelot is a Luthier French born with Provins in Seine-et-Marne, in 1925.

Biography

Wire and grandson of violin makers, it begins the Lutherie in 1942. It is famous by its science of the adjustment of the Violon and has prestigious customers like Ginette Neveu, Isaac Stern, Yehudi Menuhin, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and for the violoncellists, Maurice Gendron, Yo-Yo Ma and Mstislav Rostropovitch.

In 1970, it creates the school of French stringed-instrument trade with Mirecourt in the the Vosges.

It also creates the contest of stringed-instrument trade and archetery which bears its name.
