Etienne Mulsant
Martial Etienne Mulsant is a Entomologiste French, born the March 2nd 1797 with Mornant and dead the November 4th 1880 with Lyon.
It is initially employed of trade and writes the Lettres in Julie on entomology, followed by a methodical description of most of the insects of France, decorated boards… , dedicated to its future wife, Julie Ronchivole.
In 1817, he becomes mayor of Saint-Jean-the-Bussière, where his/her parents have a property. In 1827, it becomes, following his/her father and of his grandfather, Justice of the Peace.
It settles in Lyon in 1830. In 1839, it obtains a post of assistant librarian then, in 1843, a post of professor of Natural history in a college, function which it will occupy until in 1873.
Starting from 1840, it makes appear its Natural history of the Coleopters of France in which various other entomologists take part of which Antoine Casimir Marguerite Eugene Foudras (1783-1859) and Claudius Rey (1817-1895), its former student. It also has as a pupil Francisque Guillebeau (1821-1897) and Valéry Mayet (1839-1909).
With Jean Baptist Edouard Verreaux (1810-1868), it writes a Natural history of the bugs of France of 1865 with 1879. It also makes appear school works on the zoology or geology.
It is, lasting many years, chair Société linnéenne of Lyon.
It is also interested in the Oiseau X and makes appear several studies. It takes part in work of the commission on hunting for the small birds. In 1868, it makes appear a Lettres in Julie on ornithology , a splendid work on the hummingbirds of 1874 with 1877.
The Hummingbird of Mulsant, Acestrura mulsanti , is dedicated to him by Jules Bourcier (1797-1873) in 1842. Bourcier and are to him the authors of original descriptions of many news species.
