Etienne Ier de Sancerre
Etienne Ier of Blois-Champagne (1133 - 1190 or 1191, † with Saint-Jean-in Acre), first Count de Sancerre and third wire of Thibaut IV of Blois, Count de Blois, and of Mathilde de Carinthie. In 1151 or on January 9th, 1152, with died of his/her father, it inherited the seigniory of Sancerre then set up in county. His/her older brothers, Henri and Thibaut, receive Champagne, for the first, Blois and Chartres, for the second. Its heritage less is compared with his/her the first two brothers. Guillaume, his younger brother, did not accept anything and entered the Church. He will become Archevêque of Rheims.
On the hill of Sancerre, Etienne Ier makes build a stone citadel armed with 6 turns. It makes replace and reinforce the fortifications out of wooden of the city. In 1153, Etienne removes, with the complicity of his father, Geoffroy III of Donzy, Adélais de Donzy († between 1160 and 1169), in the morning of his marriage with the lord Anseau de Traisnel and flees with it towards Sancerre then Saint-Aignan. Herve de Donzy, brother of Adèlais, call some with king de France. This last accompanied by the count Henri Ier de Champagne, brother of Etienne, the count Thibault of Blois and Herve de Donzy, moves towards the strong castle of Saint-Aignan. The November 13rd 1160, by the marriage of his/her sister Adele of Champagne, he becomes the brother-in-law of the king Louis VII of France. The December 13rd 1160, Mathilde de Carinthie, his/her mother, dies. In 1163, Etienne Ier and the count de Joigny devastate the county of Nevers before being beaten by the count Guillaume IV, in a violent battle with Walk, between Nevers and Charity. In 1165 or afterwards, Etienne confirms a charter of his brother, Henri, count de Champagne, in favor of the currency of Meaux.
Etienne de Sancerre founds the priory Grandmontain de Charnes (attested in 1167) with Bannay. As many members of its family, it took share with the Crusades. In 1169, a diplomatic delegation, carried out by Frederic of the Rock, Archevèque de Tyre, seeking alliances and financial supports in Europe, offers to him the hands of the girl of king de Jérusalem, Amaury Ier, Sibylle. It accepts and moves towards the Holy Land, at the end of the year 1170, accompanied by Hugues III of Burgundy and a treasure, gift of the king Louis VII. Etienne unloads in Palestine at the summer 1171. It is had a presentiment of to become, one day, king de Jérusalem, by the rights of his future wife, being the legitimate heir to Amaury Ier, Baudouin IV, wire of this last, having contracted leprosy. Its nephew Louis I of Blois will make some in the same way in 1196. Etienne grants the inhabitants of Barlieu a charter on the model of " the charter of Lorris" .
Etienne Ier embarks, for the second time, in company of his/her brother and his nephew, the counts Thibaut V and Henri II of Champagne. They arrive in front of Acre the July 27th 1190 and unload at the Francs with ten thousand men, like Jean de Pontigny, Raoul de Clermont, Bernard de Saint-Valéry, Érard de Chacenay, Robert de Boves, Alain of Fontenay, Gautier d' Arzillières, Guy de Châteaudun, Jean d' Arcis, etc . Etienne Ier would have died of diseases or deceased to the combat at the side of his/her Thibault brother, during the seat of Saint-Jean-in Acre, in October 1190, or in January 1191, or the September 7th 1191. His/her son, Guillaume, succeed to him.

Anecdotes
It is on a seal of Etienne Ier that appears in 1158 and for the first time in France, the triangular Bannière. The first currencies of the Comté of Sancerre would have been produced under Etienne Ier who was the only count de Sancerre to sign his currencies.
In 1164, Etienne de Sancerre authorizes the monks of the priory to establish fortifications around the city of the Charity-on-Loire when and how they will want it. In 1176, Etienne gives to the monks his mills established with Charity, on the bridge of the Loire, while reserving himself to make there grind the bakers of Sancerre . February 2nd, 1177, the counts de Sancerre and of Joigny, called like referees, decide that the monks of Escharlis will give, instead of the dîme, a revenue of three muids of wine to the monks of Joigny, depend on Charity .
