Etienne Hirsch

Etienne Hirsch (1901-1994) was an engineer, resistant and a French senior official.

After studies with the École des Mines, it will work in chemical industry. He will be also temporarily member of the Socialist party of then of which he will remain close. At the end of the Thirties at the request of the trust of Nitrogen, he visits various countries in order to submit a report/ratio on the trust. That introduces it with the economic reflection.

During the war, it joined the French quickly Free S under the name of Commander Bernard. It takes part in London with conversations on a European regional union with Herve Alphand and Paul Van Zeeland. In 1943, he becomes a collaborator close relation of Jean Monnet in Algiers. With the release it deals with provisioning under the provisional government, then after very short return in industry, it finds Monnet in the plan.

In 1950, it takes part in the emaboration of the Schumann doctrines on Europe. In 1952, at the time Jean Monnet goes to ECSC, it takes the direction of the plan which it will preserve until 1959 dates to which it joined Euratom. In 1961, gouvernment its mandate with Euratom does not renew.

In the years soxante, it approaches Féfération of the Democratic and Socialist Left of François Mitterrand and takes part in the foundation of the Club Jean Moulin. It will give also courses to the Universit3e libre de Bruxelles and the Catholic University of Leuwen.
