Etienne Davignon

The Viscount Etienne Davignon is a Belgian statesman born the October 4th 1932 with Budapest (Hungary). Former principal private secretary of Paul-Henri Spaak and Pierre Harmel, he was also first president of the International agency of energy of 1974 to 1977, and vice-president of the European commission of 1981 to 1985. Member of the Group of Bilderberg since 1974, it is the honorary president since 1999. In 2004, the king Albert II granted the honorary title of Minister of state to him.

In November 2007, Etienne Davignon was nominated at the Price of the worst lobbying of the European Union a 2007 (price organized by four ONG European: Corporate Europe Observatory, SpinWatch, LobbyControl, Friends of the Earth), for the fact that he advises the European Commissioner Louis Michel on the questions of development in Africa, while at the same time he sits at the board of directors of Suez, a multinational which seeks to open new markets in Africa.
