Etienne Balibar (born the April 23rd 1942 with Avallon, Yonne -) is a philosopher and university French, which taught until in 2002 with the Université of Paris X - Nanterre, where he was professor of political and moral philosophy. He is currently professor of French, English and comparative literature, and professor affiliated to the department of anthropology to the the University of California with Irvine, with the the United States.
In 1960, Etienne Balibar is received with the National university (Ulm), where it has as professor Louis Althusser, who will have a great influence on him.
In 1962, it obtains a license of Philosophy to the Sorbonne, followed the following year of a diploma of higher learning, under the direction of Professor Georges Canguilhem.
In 1964, it is received with the aggregation philosophy and starts to teach. Its first posts brings it to the Université of Algiers (Algérie), where he is assistant as a volunteer for the Co-operation, of 1965 with 1967. It created and codirigé, with Dominique Lecourt, the collection “Practices theoretical” with the university Presses of France.
Etienne Balibar is the father of the actress Jeanne Balibar.
