Etienne Bézout
Etienne Bézout , born with Nemours the March 31st 1730 and died in Avon the September 27th 1783, is a Mathématicien French.
Biography
Elected official member of the Academy of Science in 1758 and named by Etienne François de Choiseul in 1763 with the head of the instruction of the royal navy, it is in charge in 1768 of the teaching of the pupils of the body of the Artillerie and writes for his pupils of the Cours of mathematics for the use of the navy and the artillery .He is also the author of a general Théorie of the algebraic equations , published in 1779, on the theory of elimination and the symmetrical functions on the roots of an equation: he uses the determinant S in an article of the Histoire of the royal Academy , appeared in 1764, but does not treat a general theory.
