History
Created by His Majesty the emperor of Ethiopia Haïlé Sélassié Ier the December 30th 1945, Ethiopian Airlines accepted an American help as of his beginnings, via the firms Boeing Corporation and Transworld Airlines (TWA). First of all employing pilots and technicians American and ensuring of the interior connections, the company developed in an important way in the years 1960 and created lines serving the continent africain.The first flights consisted of a weekly service road of the Cairo starting from Addis-Abeba, with a fleet of origin made up of five propeller planes DC-3 in which the passengers travelled sitted in seats in fabric arranged along the fuselage.

Incidents and accidents
Since 1970, two fatal events implied planes of Ethiopian Airlines.
The September 15th 1988, the two engines of a Boeing 737 of Ethiopian Airlines taking off of Baher Dar grabbed many Pigeon S. One of the engines almost immediately lost its force of push while the second lost his push at the time of the return carried out urgently towards the airport. Following an emergency landing, 31 of the 105 passengers found death.
The November 23rd 1996, three hijackers diverted a Boeing 767 ensuring the Vol 961 of Ethiopian Airlines. The flight carried out the first part of a voyage Addis-Abeba - Nairobi - Brazzaville - Lagos - Abidjan. The hijackers ordered to the pilot to go in Australia. Taking the direction of the south while skirting the African coast, the plane was with court of fuel and one of the engines stopped. At the time of the phase of approach of Moroni, capital of the the Comoros, to land the plane was completely with fuel court and was damaged at sea, with 500 meters of the coast. 123 of the 175 passengers as well as the crew of flight 961 found death there. All the hijackers are also supposed died.
