Ethics of data processing

The ethical of data processing is a branch of the ethical applied which treats way in which the professionals of the Informatique make a use of information and make decisions taking into consideration ethical criterion S.

The ethics of data processing is interested so much in the governorship (decision of management) that with the individual behavior of the professionals of data processing.
Nowadays, the massive use of emails requires for example the definition of ethical rules for the use of information.

In the United States

In the United States, the " term; computer ethics" for the first time by Walter Maner in the middle of the Années 1970 was forged, but it was only in the Années 1990 that it started to be really integrated in the development programs professional of the academic mediums.

In France

CIGREF and SYNTEC developed a common charter, which is not really a Code of conduct. The proposed topics are the following:

  • the knowledge of the trades,
  • transparency,
  • impartiality,
  • quality,
  • the Innovation,
  • information circulation,
  • the division of knowledge,
  • the productivity,
  • the follow-up.

It is envisaged an annual statement of account relating to the application of the charter.

The CIGREF and the SYNTEC decided to set up work groups specialized around four trades:

  • Systems integration,
  • Software package,
  • Infogérance,
  • the Council.

The following guides are available:

  • Déontologie of the uses of IF, by CIGREF, with the Circle of Ethics of Businesses (ECA) (2006),
  • Charter AFAI, applicable to any user of a basic system of knowledge (2006),
  • Charter of the general advice, applicable to the agents, the frees-lance, and the people receiving benefits.
