Etalonnor

the etalonnor is a technician of the Audiovisuel which intervenes after the Tournage to carry out the calibration.

During a turning carried out in a traditional way on photosensitive film, it is charged to calibrate the rushes, or " first positif" , sent to the Laboratory for development and pulling.

The calibration consists in proportioning the quantities of red, green and blue light of the additive Tireuse which will cross the negative film , in order to have returned balanced one in colorimetric space of the positive film during pulling.

Without additional intermediaries (masks) nor particular treatment, only colorimetric balance and the Densité of positive can be controlled.

These rushes is then assembled in traditional” or “virtual” way a “(see the techniques of Montage).

After assembly and Conformation, the etalonnor lays out of a negative assembly of film. He draws some then from the positive copies whose sequences connect in term of Luminosité and Colorimétrie, and this in their center, like between them. This calibration is done normally in agreement with the Chef operator and the Réalisateur.

The positive pullings obtained directly starting from the assembly of negative resulting from turning are called “copies of prestige”. They are necessarily drawn of limited number.

The pulling of the copies of series requires intermediaries (interpositifs, internégatifs).

When the calibration is carried out on station of virtual assembly or completion, the calibration is carried out using a computer and a software dedicated, starting from negative the scanné or transferred to the Télécinéma. Other parameters (contrast, saturation, definition…) can be controlled. It is also possible to vary the parameters in a dynamic way within a plan, all impossible things in calibration " traditionnel".

With less of scanner the negative one in 4 K, that is made with the detriment quality, by comparison with the traditional calibration. But the other effects carried out at the time of the post-production (of molten type for example) carried out in laboratory in a traditional way being less satisfactory than those realized in a data-processing way, it is by comparing the costs of the various techniques and by taking account of the circuit of exploitation of film that the production company will make the choice of such or such technique.
