STEVELUS He was the son of STEVUS character at the origin of the name of BaillestavyThe name of Estoher was " Astovere" in IXe century. From this name I reconstituted " Astevihero" or " Astevohero" in IVe century.
The Latin expression " In Stevi hero" mean " At the heir to Stevus" and the expression " In Stevo hero" mean " At Stevus héritier".
One knows by other toponyms (see further) than this wire of Stevus gave oneself the nickname of " STEVELUS". In Latin the cognomen (=surnom) " STEVELUS" mean the " small STEVUS".
STEVELUS signed unfinished toponymic work by his/her father, as the names testify some to 3 villages " Estagel" " Maury" " Caramany":
With the Middle Ages the names of these villages were Stagello (806)… Kara manho (1242)… Amariolas (842). According to these medieval names I reconstituted the names of the 4th century " Stevulo" " Caramanu" " Maturielax" by thinking of the Latin sentence " In Stevulo… manu will cara… maturi and laxi sunt".
This sentence means " By Stevulus,… with its dear hand,… they are finished and supplemented ". (they are the Villages named by Stevus which are more than 100.
Moreover in 958 are mentioned the Mounts “Cogollem”, “Caprariam”, and “Stavellum” between the valley of Lentilla with Baillestavy and that of in Estoher. By studying them of close I found that they hid a sentence made by STEVELUS: " Cognominem capiebam: Stevelum". The significance of the sentence is “ As nickname… I had taken…: STEVELUS ”.
I think that the old mount " Stavellum" was the Mount Barbet spaniel of today, because there remains still a locality " Clots d' Estavell" in the content of the valley of to the foot of the Barbet spaniel.
The name of the Mount " Caprariam" still finds itself dant the toponym " Pla Cabrera" , appearing 2 times of which a mountain " Short-nap cloth of Pla Cabrera" who could be the Caprariam Mount well.
The name of the Mount " Cogollem" curiously slipped towards a collar, the Collar of Galline, while probably passing by " Collar Gallen" who resembles the name " Cogollem". This collar is with the foot of the Rock of Jocavell, whose name could be Joc Cogoll, then Joc Covell; Joc not meaning high (even root that the “perched” word)
