Estância Velha is a city of the Brésil.

The origin of the name of Estância Velha comes from the localization of a property of breeding of cattle (" estância" , in Portuguese gaúcho) near to the Lagoon (Lagoa) Lourenço Torres, whose foreman was Jose Antônio de Quadros. Following the normal development of the area (the Valley of the Rio back Sinos), the place was divided into several parts, of which Picada Estância Velha.

History

Estância Velha was born in 1788, like territorial element of the Real Feitoria C Linho Cânhamo. In 1824, Dom Pedro I distributed the grounds of this Real Feitoria in glèbe (batches of ground for agriculture) for the immigrant German who arrived at São Leopoldo. The history tells that the first immigrant á to settle there was Mathias Franzen, who, in addition to being a colonist, followed the occupation of shoe-maker. From there arrived of other immigrant families.

The January 15th 1930, Estância Velha became the seat of the 10th District of São Leopoldo. This political fact stimulated the growth of the small industry of leather, initiated in 1890, mainly turned towards the manufacture of saddles and other elements of saddlery. Its noun was modified in 1939 Genuíno Sampaio. In 1950, returned the name of Estância Velha. From this year the movement " émancipationniste" made its appearance in the Rio Grande C Sul. Estância Velha, influenced by this one, after eight years of fight of its inhabitants the most implied in the political life, succeeds in obtaining its emancipation like independent Municipalité the September 8th, 1959 .

Economy

The principal activity of the Municipality are the Industrie S of the Cuir and the Chaussure.

The rural area is mainly occupied by fields and Pâturage S which cover 35% of the surface of the municipal territory, and intended for the breeding of the animals which will provide the Raw material; 29% in plantations of Arbre S, especially of Acacia S blacks whose the Tanin S are extracted used in the treatment from the skins.

The grounds are rich in Basalte, used for the construction of the Route S and the buildings.
