Essises

Essises is a common French, located in the department of the Aisne and the area Picardy.

Geography

Essises is a small Picardy commune of the south Aisne, located in the area called “ Omois ”.

The village of Essises is located at the edge of the Parer at 130 meters of altitude. The territory of the commune is spread out downstream from the Parer with 217 meters, over the plate of Vault-on-Chézy. Its relief consists of a North-South directed valley and two plates, on both sides of this valley.

The commune with a surface of 746 hectares, including 142 hectares in forest and wood.

Essises includes/understands 11 hamlets whose principal ones are: Arrouard, Caquerêts, Fayet, Perdraux, Valleys, Pompierre, Pislouvet and Marveloux.

Its employers' festival is first Sunday of June.

The access to a4 highway in 20 minutes per Castle-Thierry, makes it possible to go to Paris in 1:30. As the crow flies, Paris is only with 70 kilometers of Essises!

History

ASSELUM at the time Gallo-Roman then ESSECES to become finally ESSISES, small village located in the valley of the PARER - this affluent of the MARNE - called DOLLIGER in 1182, takes its source with some steps of VIFFORT. It made turn three mills to grains in our Commune.

In the departmental records, the register of ESSISES, gone back to 1719 contains a note relating to the dryness; extraordinary heats caused frequent diseases, flows of blood, pourpreuses fevers, small pox, and even a great mortality also reaching the poultries. This same year, the oats were burned on feet.

 In 1725, spring and the autumn were very rainy, the wine bad, it was had there only three parts with the arpent. With the end of the year, furious winds rose which brought large rains, the PARER and the brooks overflowed during three weeks.

 In 1728, there was little corn and of oats, which were worth respectively 25 and 12 grounds, the wine was green, the bad fruits, the cows gave only little milk.

 In 1731, the summer was very dry, the hundred sheaves of hay went up to 56 pounds, the corn did not exceed 2 books, but the oats were worth 20 to 22 grounds.

 In 1732, a paragraph mentions the following sentence: “You will give pleasure with Monseigneur, Sir, to tell your parishioners not to carry firearms when its size makes the visit of your parish. ”

 In 1736, blessing of the large bell remelted with the Castle of CHÂTEAU-THIERRY by François CHANEZ. It dated like the two small ones, of 1534; it had been cracked on January 5th by three children who drew it to sound the Angelus.

 In 1740, disastrous year, rigorous winters, rainy summer, very cold autumn, the MARNE overflows, just as all the rivers of France of EUROPE.

 In 1741, one had hardly what to sow.

 In 1788, one notes that the soil of the parish is difficult to cultivate, it hardens and is softened with an equal facility; sometimes one needs four or five draft animals by plow. The size is distributed in a general meeting where all the inhabitants can go. The parish forever be profit of funds of charity which it would need however. So it cannot exempt money the most stripped with, but it has beds with the HOSPITAL of CHÂTEAU-THIERRY. An enumeration of the inhabitants of the parish gives a population of 306 hearts.

 In 1789, a petition was required and addressed to the administration so that a bridge is built on Ru, the parish offered to take responsibility for its a third of the expenditure.

 a little more than one century ago, our village still had vines, the inhabitants were proud of their vintage, one excelling white of champagne. These vines were cultivated with closed CAQUERÊTS, the DUY, the MARCAUDE.

In the municipal files, some names of owners collecting in year 1790 were found: Andre DEGRET, Andre MAHU, François LEFRANC. Unfortunately, in 1870, an insect hémiptère, will phylloxera it will destroy all the plantations. It was never replanted by it.

Indeed, on the way of the return of its sacring in RHEIMS, in the year 1429, CHARLES VII, to these having dimensioned JEANNE Of ARC, the village crosses. (A way preserved since the name of “Way of the king”). Then FRANÇOIS 1st, CHARLES IX, then in his turn HENRI IV, very often came to drive out in the close forest, but the most important fact which marked its history is, without any doubt the passage of the NAPOLEON Emperor 1st, accompanied by his marshals, continuing the enemy at the time of the Battle of MONTMIRAIL, releasing the hamlet of CAQUERÊTS where the army Russo-Prussian had given an opinion, in its retirement on February 12th, 1814.
