History
The name of Essert probably comes from the word essart , ground cleared to make it cultivable. Formerly did not exist another Essert in the department, there does not remain about it any more but the farm of Saint-Andrew, on the territory of Florimont.The first mention of the name of the village (in the form Shert , one meets also Essars and Exers in addition) is in a document compiled in German and gone back to 1303.
