Esquire , created in 1933, is a Magazine Mensuel for men published by Hearst Corporation. With the the United States, it became famous when it published important literary figures, like Ernest Hemingway and Francis Scott Fitzgerald. In 2004, it was sold with 116  000  specimens for an audience of approximately 700  000  readers.

Description

He addresses himself to financially easy customers. Including/understanding photographs known as of charm, it is a mixture of male mode, articles on the economy and on the news Technologie S. Its pages are supplemented by criticisms of Film S and of S delivers, just like practical articles.

History

In the Years 1940, its popularity in the United States increases when it publishes paintings of Alberto Vargas which put in the high-speed motorboat Pin-up. In the Years 1960, it publishes John Sack, Tom Wolfe, Norman Mailer, Tim O' Brien and Gay Talese, figureheads of the Nouveau journalism with the the United States.

For several years, the magazine has had an annual contest entitled Dubious Achievement Awards , which list curious events or cocasses which have occurred during the year. The text is written in inverse order, contrary to the majority of the humorous pages: the word of the end occurs in first and the text in lower part explains the event. Several candidates took again this formula. A recurring joke is that where Richard Nixon, taken in photograph, drain and the legend “Why this man laugh does asks? ” (free translation of “Why is this man laughing? ”).
