Esquimalt

The town of Esquimalt (IPA: ɛs' kwaɪ' mʌlt) is a municipality at the southern end of the Vancouver Island, in Colombia-British (Canada)

It is bordered in the east by the provincial capital, Victoria, in the south by the Détroit of Juan de Fuca, in the west by Esquimalt Harbor , and in the North-West by the Indian reserve of New Songhees and the town of View Royal and finally in north by a small arm of the sea called the Gorge , which separates it from the district of Saanich. Esquimalt belongs to Large Victoria and the regional district Capital.

Its population is of 16.127 inhabitants (2001) for a surface of 7,04 km.

Old base of the Company of Hudson Bay and old port for Royal British Navy, it shelters from now on the peaceful fleet of the Canadian royal Marine and is the second Canadian naval base after that of Halifax in Nova Scotia.
