The Esquilin ( Esquiliae ) is one of the Seven hills of Rome, in the east of the city. It is presented in the form of a plate with three light rises:
Originally, Esquilin was included/understood in the Mur of Servius Tullius.
The hill became the name of the fifth area under Auguste, area which was completely out of the Mur of Servius Tullius, and thus did not comprise any part of original Esquilin. The mount Oppius was in the third area and the mount Cispius in the fourth.
Before the Empire, this zone was occupied by the cemetery of the poor and had a bad reputation.
Later, Patron made there build a splendid villa with gardens.
At the end of the Empire, Esquilin became a passably built hill, with many gardens and fields of rich person citizens.
