François Verger , known as Gorgibus , known as Espy , was a French actor, born towards 1603. It finishes its career in the Troupe of Molière.
Biography
He was the older brother of
Jodelet. He played first of all Hôtel of Burgundy, passed to the Théâtre of the Marsh, before entering on April 13rd, 1659 the Troupe of Molière. As he liked sometimes to do it,
Molière created for him, by using its second nickname, the character of Gorgibus, good middle-class of
Paris in
Invaluable ridiculous the and in
Sganarelle . The undoubtedly helping age (it was 20 years old more than
Molière, which points out it to him in
the School of the husbands ), it held several times of the roles of arguer, in particular at Arnolphe of
the School of the women .
The March 12th 1663, old of more than 60 years, it took its retirement and was withdrawn in “Vigray, close to Angers” (Vigré, commune of Cuillé in the Mayenne), where it dies after having abjured the Protestantisme.
The circumstance which made it seek a place if withdrawn to die, remains been unaware of. It is however known that it had with his brother of other goods in the same region. He is buried on September 17th 1663 in the church of Cuillé.
