Esplanade of Metz

the Esplanade of Metz is a garden of a surface of 9200 m ² located in the town of Metz in the Moselle.

Located between the law courts and the arsenal near the vault of Templiers and the basilica Saint-Pierre-with-Nonnains the, the esplanade overhangs the valley of the the Moselle and the water level.

In the gardens of the esplanade several statues are located: the statue of the nymph " Source" of Charles Pêtre, the bronze horse of Fratin, the statue of the marshal Ney and that of the Hairy Liberator.

History

The gardens of the esplanade were arranged following the destruction of the Citadelle and occupy the site of the old ditches.

The World Fair of 1861 partly took place on the walk of the Esplanade.

In December 1918, Philippe Pétain was made there Marshal of France by Raymond Poincaré and Georges Clémenceau.

Demonstrations

Each year the Be of the Book is held there in June.
