Espinho is a municipality (in Portuguese: concelho or municĂ­pio ) of the Portugal, located in the District of Aveiro and the Northern area.

History

Espinho holds its origin of a group of fishermen who attended the very full of fish site, spending the night in shelters, even under the hull of their turned over boat.

At the time Roman existed already a Castro, small strengthened population.

The urban development really started with the arrival of the railroad at the end of the XIXe century and the vogue of the baths at the beginning of the XXe century. One can still see beautiful houses going back to this time.

Espinho is to 20 ' of the center of Oporto in the train.

Characteristics

The streets cross with right angle and carry numbers. The principal centers of interests are:
  • in seaside: the beach, sea water the swimming pool, the casino, the coastal walk which makes it possible to skirt the coast to Oporto and the small fishing boats to the south.
  • in the center: many trade, the weekly market (in Portuguese " feira" has;) who takes place every Monday and the multi-media center which gathers a planetarium, a cinema of the type IMAX and stations of access to Internet.

Event

  • the city accommodates each Monday the largest market of the country.
