The pikes are carnivorous fish, of Fresh water mainly piscivorous and originating in the North America. They are normally the predatory absolutes of their water levels (except for the Brochet of America). A pike arrived to a good size does not have other predatory only other pikes and the human .
The characteristics common to all pikes are their spindle-shaped silhouette, a nose " in nozzle of canard" , of the fins concentrated backwards, approximately 700 extremely sharp teeth and a flesh-colored food. Often prone to fishing story the pikes do not hesitate to conceal fish of the lines of the fishermen, to attack with the ducklings, rat-musky and to reach impressive sizes for the lakes and rivers. Certain subjects exceed 150 cm.
Their flesh is estimated for certain cooks but their position at the top of the food chain should limit the consumption of the large specimens which have tendency to bioaccumuler the metal element-traces. The given to systematic water of the captures is increasingly popular, in particular in the impassioned fishermen of the Maskinongé. For example, certain sites dedicated to fishing with the " Maski " do not publish any fish photograph dead.
Sometimes regarded as a plague, this vision is altogether marginal. On the other hand it is still observed in certain sectors of Canada where they are particularly abundant thus certain sectors where they were introduced (in particular California).
