Esnes
Esnes is a common French, located in the department of the Northern (59) and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
Its inhabitants is called Esnois, Esnoises.

History
Esnes with the Middle Ages
Esnes was one of 12 peerages of the Cambrésis.
The first known lord with Esnes is Alard in 1007, it is even Cambrésis. Four generations later, Alard II (1105) will have as heiress a girl who will marry Eustace de Landas, Seigneur of Eyne in Flanders, fourth wire of Amaury VI and Ermentrude de Béthune. The house of Esnes thus passes in a branch of the family of Landas, which one will call Landas d' Esnes. They will carry the old weapons, i.e. of money (white) to the sand edge (black).
Towards 1260, Alix de Beauvoir, wife of Gerard de Landas of Esnes, is confined of a single girl (Alix). She will marry Alard de Croisille which carries as weapons of mouth (red) to 10 gold rhombuses (yellow) placed 3,3,3,1. It will make pass the house of Landas-Esnes in its family, and not being the elder one, it will decide to take again the name of Esnes. To confirm this new denomination, it will maintain its blazon but by taking the colors of Landas-Esnes. Its new weapons are thus of sand (black) with 10 money rhombuses (white) which will become definitively the weapons of the lords of Esnes.
The lords of Esnes will return for the majority homage to the Count de Hainaut and will belong to this army in the various campaigns against the Duché of the Brabant, of Limbourg, Flanders etc Pourtant Jean Ier at the beginning of the Guerre One hundred Year old will return its homage to the Count de Hainaut, combined with the English, to serve the King de France. He will be killed with the Bataille of Poitiers in 1358.
Several lords of Esnes will be Baillif S of the Cambrésis and Amiens. Robert d' Esnes says Mansart in 1411, man of the Duc of Orleans, lord of Esnes, Grécourt, Wavrechin, Vire, Betancourt and Beauvoir will be governor of the Château of Coucy which it will defend for 3 months, besieged by the Count of Saint-pol.. He will go afterwards many combat for lack of vivres.

Castle of the 15th century rebuilt at the 18th century, surrounded by ditches (almost entirely filled) with two medieval round towers framing the porch, a gross tower, pigeon, the dungeon, a very beautiful interior frontage of the 17th century.Guided visits of the castle fourth Sunday of April at October of 14:30 to 18:00 by the Friends of the Castle and the Soil of Esnes.
