Eskişehir

Eskişehir is a town of Turkey, Préfecture of the Province of the same name.

The Eskisehir city has a surface of 13.652 km ². It counts 706.009 inhabitants. Number of the city is represented by the 26 and its prefix is 0222.

The fur city founded on the ruins history of Dorylaeum, where the armies of the Crusaders were overcome with the Seldjoukides armies. The name (Hurdy-gurdy City) Eskişehir probably comes from these ruins. Dorylaeum had to be founded by the Phrygian ones. After the invasion of Alexandre the Large one, the grounds remained in the North of the Porsuk brook were given to the Kingdom of Bithynie, those remained in the South passed to kings Galates. It was a very important Byzantine military base, after the division of the Roman Empire into two. Its importance was growing at the time seldjoukide and after Othoman. The mosque of Alaeddin, pertaining to the Sultan Alaeddin Keukubat is covered with tiles. The mosque of Kurşunlu built into 151 and its medressé are examples Othoman-Turkish classical architecture. These works all are allotted to the Sinan architect.

The statues, the capitals and the épigraphies found in this area are joined together with the museum of Eskişehir. In the city, the objects which attract the attention of the tourists are: pipes and made canes of a special stone called (Lületaşı) sea foam (magnesia silicate). They like in Europe and are required since centuries. The tomb of the large philosopher Yunus Emre is in the same way here. In the Çifteler suburb, one notices rocks carrying of the inscriptions; one calls this area the town of Midas (Midas Şehri) and it seems that the tomb of king Midas is here. A small lake, to 73 km. of distance from Eskişehir, with the discharge of river of Sakarya is a place of excursion during the summer months.
