Eshowe
Eshowe , located in the KwaZulu-Native , in South Africa, is the oldest city rested by Europeans of the Zoulouland and known for the victorious seat supported by the British against the Zoulous in 1879.
Its name would come from the sound which the wind in the trees of the forest of Dhlinza makes, pride of the city. Another analysis connects this name to the Zulu word showe or shongwe , which indicates a variety of bushes.
Eshowe is today a flourishing small town which shelters two shopping malls, a hospital, schools and an important coach station qu serves the back-country.

In 1860 Cetshwayo, which was not whereas a simple Zulu prince, made build a Kraal that it named Eziqwaqweni (the den of the robbers) . A mission was established there in 1861 by a Norwegian, the reverend Ommund Ofterbro. It was famous mission KwaMondi, of the name given to the reverend by the Zulus themselves (Ommund becoming Mondi ).
During the anglo-Zulu War of 1879, colonel Charles Pearson, with the head of a column of almost 7.000 men, was locked up in the mission of KwaMondi which it made strengthen to resist the Zulu attacks. The place was renamed Fort Eshowe. The seat lasted ten weeks (January 22nd - April 3rd) until Lord Chelmsford assists from Pearson.
After the war, Eshowe became the capital of Zululand in 1887.
