Escondida

The island Escondida (the hidden island), is a fictitious island of Cartoons.

It is in this island, that the “Monk” directs an organization of pirates for whom the captains Corto Maltese and Raspoutine work, during the year 1913. In the account, it is located on 169° western longitude and 19° of southern latitude. According to the author, the island which was used to him as model is Abaiang, one of the 16 atolls of the archipelago Gilbert, of the Republic of the Kiribati. This archipelago is in the Pacific Ocean, close to the Ecuador, between the islands Fiji, in the south and the Marshall Islands, in north.
