Esclanèdes

Esclanèdes is a common French, located in the department of the Lozere and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants is called Esclanédiens.

Geography

The commune of Esclanèdes is located at horse on the valley of the Lot and the Causse of Sauveterre.

The principal village of the commune is Bruel. It is located on north-western bank of the Batch, just like the village of Rocherousse and the castle of Marance, both a little higher on the southern slope of the valley. On the other side of the river are the farm of Mazet and the village of Esclanèdes which gives its name to the commune. Lastly, the hamlet of Droppings is located on the plate which the Causse constitutes.

The Saint-Hippolyte church

The church is located in the village of Esclanèdes and depends on the community of parishes of Chanac. One reaches it by a be crossing the cemetery which surrounds it.

Probably built during the 13th century, the church Saint- Hippolyte was attached to the episcopal Mense of Mende in 1315. After its fire by the Huguenots in 1562, it was rebuilt in 1630. The Sacristie was added in 1721, was followed presbytery and bell-tower at the 19th century.

The Fages priest initiated the restoration of the church by local masons and volunteers in 1971. A new restoration of the building, concerning the frontages, the roof and electrical installations and of heating, was completed in 2007 by the restoration of the stained glasses.
