Escalquens

Escalquens is a common French, located in the department of the Haute-Garonne and the area the Midday-Pyrenees. Escalquens belongs to the community of agglomeration of the Sicoval.

Its inhabitants is called Escalquinois.

Geography

Escalquens is located at 15 km of Toulouse, in Toulouse South-east, with the doors of the Lauragais, country of the Pastel, of the Canal of the South… Lauragais includes/understands the Black Montagne (Revel and the Lac of Saint-Ironwood is to 40 km) and a vast solid mass of hills in which Escalquens extends. Since their top, it is possible to contemplate the chain of the the Pyrenees.

Places and monuments

Two monuments, located at 100 meters one of the other, constitute a splendid site in full heart of the village: a Castle of the 16th century, arranged in Town hall, letting appear traces of building of the Romance time and Gothic time ,
and superb a church dating from the 14th century whose Clocher is a counterpart of Saint-Sernin. This church is called besides small Saint-Sernin .

Economy

Even if the majority of the active population migrates the every day towards Toulouse and her large companies (EADS Astrium Satellites, Airbus, Alcatel, Motorola, Thomson, CNES, France Telecom…) or towards the fish pond of companies of Labège-Innopole and of the technological Park of the Channel, Escalquens accommodates some generating companies of employment (Midday the Pyrenees Plastiques, the Toulouse one, Gaches Chemistry…). These activities are supplemented by many craftsmen and tradesmen. The Universities, institutes of technologies and others schools of engineers of Toulouse, located in the vicinity, also make it possible to continue higher learning.
