Esbjerg was a municipality of old the department of Ribe, in the west of the Jutland to the Denmark. Since January 2007 Esbjerg belongs to the Southern Denmark. Inhabitants (2007): 114.148. Surface: 742,5 km ².
It has the most important port of the Denmark on the the North Sea. This one was created at the 19th century to consolidate the Danish presence in the Jutland after the loss of the part in the south of the river Kongea, at the time of the conflict of 1864 with the Prussia. Its processing capacities of fish were largely industrialized (manufacture of flours). The connections with British Isles also ensure a notable traffic of passengers.
