Es Mercadal
Es Mercadal is a commune of the island of Minorque, of 3 200 inhabitants.
At 21 km of Mahón, at the geographical center of the island, Es Mercadal is located at the foot of Assembled Toro (358 m), culminating point of Minorque.
Its activity is primarily agricultural, but one finds there also industries of manufacture of shoes and the gâteux dry ones, but also of potteries and straw hats.
Patronym very running to the Balearic Islands which means the place of the market. This name was established after the reconquest of the archipelago by the catholic kings at the 13th century. Following an immigration of the minorquins in Algeria at the 19th century, this pied-noir name will be essential in France (even if there were some).
