Erzurum (Armenian Կարին ( Karin )) of Anatolia is an Eastern town, in Turkey. Prefecture of the Province of the same name, it counts a population of 361.235 inhabitants (census of 2000). Located on a plate at 1945 m of altitude, the city, one highest of the area, know a continental Climat extreme, with an average temperature of -11 °C in January. The temperatures frequently fall below the -30 °C in winter, with heavy snowfalls.
Erzurum, known like The Rock'n'roll (“the Rock”) in the code NATO, was used as a basis air south-Eastern of NATO during the Cold war.
