Erudite music

The erudite music (or sometimes serious music , in English art music ) is a general term used to indicate a Type music relating to the musical traditions implying of the structural and theoretical considerations advanced. It is particularly used in opposition to the popular musics and traditional. So in the beginning the term indicated mainly with the Western classical music (in its broad direction), the term indicates in a broader way:

  • the whole of the classical musics (European but also of other cultures).

  • the Modern music (what includes in particular the Musique electroacoustic, the experimental Musique (erudite), the Musique minimalist as well as other forms).
  • Certain forms of the Jazz .

It must be added that the limits between the popular music and the erudite music were sometimes flouées particularly at the end of the XXe century because of a certain number of fusions between the erudite music and the popular music, particularly with the Musique minimalist. For this reason some regard sometimes certain forms of rock'n'roll such as art rock'n'roll as erudite music. However it should be noted that there is often a very large confusion on the direction of erudite the music term especially in the Anglo-Saxon countries where erudite the music term says " art music" . Many includes/understands the term " art music" in a direction different from its original direction. the artists of rock'n'roll and experimental metal use the term art music in opposition to the music commercial, not being aware of the distinction between the scientist and popular. From where certain confusions when d'" is spoken; art music".

Characteristics

The term refers mainly to the musics which stress particular on the formal questions of style and which invite to the technical and detailed déconstruction and require a more pointed attention of the listener. The erudite music is regarded initially as a music of written tradition, preserved in the form of a musical Notation in opposition to the popular and traditional musics orally transmitted or by recording. Historically, the majority of the erudite music are written in the standard form of this notation which advanced in Europe since the period of the Rebirth and knew its maturity at the time of the Romantique period. In the erudite music the identity of a work is defined compared to its version noted rather than in a particular performance.
