He was located by the Warner Brothers , signed a contract and took a boat for the the United States to become contractual actor.

Career

Flynn became famous with its third film Capitaine Blood in 1935. He became specialist in cloak and dagger films: Adventures of Robin of Wood (1938) (regarded as best film of the kind, traditional of Hollywood), the Conquerors (1939), the Eagle of the seas (1940) and Adventures of Don Juan (1948).

Flynn was the partner of Olivia de Havilland in eight films, of which the Captain Blood , the Load of the light brigade (1936) , Adventures of Robin of Wood , the Track of Santa Fe (1940), and the fantastic Load (1941), where he interprets an English officer, Robin of Wood and the Custer general.

Flynn was a become inveterate drinker, a dredger and a fêtard. This lifestyle attracted troubles to him when Betty Hansen and Peggy Satterlee, two teenagers, showed it rape in November 1942; according to the biography diffused by Arte on April 15th, 2007, Errol Flynn was especially guilty to have refused to sprinkle the local judges as the other actors of Hollywood did it. A group which named the American boys for the defense of Errol Flynn (in English American Boys Club for the Defense off Errol Flynn (ABCDEF) ) organized for its defense. Among its members appeared rather surprisingly William F. Buckley, Jr.. The lawsuit had in January place and February 1943, and a withdrawal of case was marked. This incident increased its reputation of ladies' man , and the term the love in Flynn (in English In Like Flynn") became synonymous with success in the companies in love.

Flynn was member of the club of cricket of Hollywood with his/her close friend David Niven. Its attitude towards the life and the women was immortalisée in English language by Benjamin S. Johnson in her treaty on the subject: " A errolesque philosophy of the life (" Year Errolesque Philosophy one Life.")

In the years 1950, Flynn became a parody of itself. The abuse alcohol and drugs aged it prematurely but it continued to be appreciated in its roles, as in the film the Sun rises also (1957). Its coloured autobiography My Wicked, Wicked Ways , published a few months after its death, contains anecdotes full with humor on Hollywood.

Private life

Flynn was married three times, with the actress Lili Damita of 1935 to 1942 (a son Sean Flynn); with Nora Eddington of 1943 to 1948 (two girls Deirdre and Rory); and with the actress Patrice Wymore of 1950 with its death (a girl Arnella Roma).

Rumors, not confirmed, claimed that Flynn was bisexual. At the end of the years 1950, it met Beverly Aadland, 15 years old, with the " Hollywood Professional School" and courted it several years. It projected to marry it and take it along in their new residence in Jamaica, but it died of an heart attack during a voyage to Vancouver. His/her single son, Sean Flynn, became war actor and later correspondent (it disappeared in Kampuchea in 1970 during the Guerre from Vietnam). The life of the son of Flynn was told by Jeffrey Meyers in its book Inherited Risk (Simon & Schuster).

Errol Flynn died of one heart attack at the fifty years age in a friend the October 14th 1959. His/her two parents survived to him. It is buried with the Cemetery Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Glendale, California. It divides its coffin with six bottles of Whiskey, a gift of good-bye of his companions of drinking bout.

Flynn was citizen of the United States since 1942. To Hollywood, it was presented as Irish rather than as Australian probably because it thought that few people had heard of Australia. His/her father Theodore Thomson Flynn was biologist and professor with the Queen' S University of Belfast.

Its grandson, one of wire of Rory, also named Sean Flynn, is him also actor.

Discusses postmortem

Charles Higham published a discussed Biographie, Errol Flynn, the secret history ( Errol Flynn: The Untold Story (Doubleday, 1980)) in which he claims without any obviousness that Flynn was a sympathizer Fasciste and that he had spy on behalf of the Nazi S before and during the Second world war. More recent biographies in particular that of Tony Thomas' Errol Flynn, the spy who forever be to it ( Errol Flynn: The Spy Who Never Was (Citadel, 1990)) denounced these assumptions like plots. The political opinions of Flynn rather appear to have leant on the left. It defended the Spanish République, during the Guerre of Spain, and the cuban Révolution, ensuring even the comment of a documentary heading the history of Cuba ( Cuban Story ) little before its death. According to the proper words of Flynn in My Wicked, Wicked Ways , he regarded Fidel Castro as a friend. He had gone to Cuba to testify to the revolution and found Castro attractive. He declared in 1959 with the emission of Canadian TV Front Page Challenge , that Castro would become one of the characters major of the history. This opinion was before the mode castrist supports the Communiste S and does not sweep the Démocrate S.
