Ernst Thälmann
Ernst Thälmann was a Politician German born with Hamburg in 1886, assassinated with the Concentration camp of Buchenwald, in August 1944.
Biography
Ernst Thälmann adheres to the social democrat Parti of Germany (SPD) in 1903. From 1917 he is member of the social democrat Parti independent of Germany (USPD), but did not join the Spartakiste S which create in December 1918 the Communist party of Germany (KPD). End 1920, it follows the majority of the USPD which joined the KPD.
Chief of the German Communist party (KPD) starting from 1925, he was in particular candidate with the presidential elections of 1925 and 1932 (13,2%). He was arrested and imprisoned as of 1933 by the Nazis.
As of 1933, a vast campaign for the release of Ernst Thälmann is relayed internationally by the movement antifascist. The figure of Thälmann becomes a symbol of German resistance in general, communist resistance in particular.
After a long stay with the prison of State of Bautzen, it was suddenly transferred to the concentration camp from Buchenwald the August 17th 1944. It was carried out there the following day on order of Hitler. The press Nazi tried to make pass her death for a consequence of the bombardment of the camp of the August 24th.
After the Release, its memory was honoured. The authorities of GDR made raise many monuments, gave its name to many streets which always carry it.
