Roland Sherwood " Ernie" Ball (1930 - September 9th 2004 at Obispo San Luis in California) the creator of the mark of cord S for guitars Ernie Ball , used for more than forty years by guitarists known such as Jimi Hendrix, Steve Lukather, Steve Vai, Slash, Matthew Bellamy of MUSE, Daron Malakian of System off has had Down, Green Day, Blink 182, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Albert Lee, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Angus Young of AC/DC and much of others.

According to the British type-setter Mo Foster, Ball was the first industrialist in the Années 1950 to notice and exploit the tendency of the users of Electric guitar to use cords of Banjo, more fines and light that the usual cords, in order to improve the jouability of the instrument. That carried out it to develop the sets of sets called “slinky” which became its leading product.

One allots also the development to him of the first low Guitare acoustic modern, introduced under the name “Earthwood” in 1972.

Mr Ernie Ball is deceased the September 9th 2004 at Obispo San Luis.
