Ernestine Schumann-Heink

Ernestine Schumann-Heink is a singer of opera Czech, naturalized American, born in Lieben, close to Prague the June 15th 1861 and died the November 19th 1936 with Hollywood.

She begins in 1878 with Dresden in the role from Azucena from the Trouvère . In 1882 she marries Ernst Heink, from which she will separate for remarier with the actor Paul Schumann. She then decides to continue her career under the double name of her husbands.

She widens her repertory under the rod of Gustav Mahler, before occurring with the Covent Garden, then with the Met. But in fact especially the Wagnerian roles make its reputation. It there gains the regard of Cosima Wagner and will appear with Bayreuth during ten years (1996-1906).

She marries in third wedding William Rapp and takes American nationality. She records several discs, in particular in duet with Caruso. She bids her farewell with the scene on March 11th, 1932 in the role of Brünnhilde at 71 years.

She turned in the film Here' S to Romance .
