Ernestine Anderson
Ernestine Irene Anderson is an American singer born with Houston (Texas), the November 11th 1928.
It begins with Russell Jacquet in 1943 then sings with Johnny Otis (1947 - 1949), Eddie Heywood and Lionel Hampton (1952 - 1953). It records for the first time under its name one 78 turns in 1947, a second in 1953 accompanied by Quincy Jones, with Gigi Gryce in 1955, then, again under its own name, in 1956, Sweden, accompanied by Duke Jordan and local musicians, of which Rolf Ericsson.
Of return in California, with its participation in the festivals Turnwater Festival (Canada) (where Ray Brown the redécouvre) and of Monterey and some recordings, its reputation starts to be established. It records some discs with New York of 1959 with 1964, then, decreasing success, expatriate with London (1965 - 1967). Practically forgotten on its return to Los Angeles (1969) it ceases any musical activity.
It returns to the Jazz in 1975 thanks to the firm Concord after a mystical phase and a series of small employment (chambermaid, operator). It records regularly under the aegis of this company, then for various other labels, and carries out rounds in all the continents.
Its full, serious voice, powerful, which is not without evoking that of Bessie Smith in less dramatic or of Dinah Washington without the dirty gouaille is often implemented in traditional standards and blues, often development by musical ECRIN of a big band (the Netherlands Metropole Orchestrated for example, or under the direction of Frank Cape or of the Gene Harris Concord Superband . It also recorded under the direction of Ray Brown, Eiji Kitamura, Teo Macero, George Shearing, Clifford Solomon and Teo Macero.
