Ernest Marsden

Sir Ernest Marsden (1889 - 1970), was a physicist Néo-Zélandais.

Biography

It met Ernest Rutherford at the university of Manchester. Whereas it was still student, it realized in 1908 celebrates it experiment of Diffusion Rutherford particles Alpha with Hans Geiger under the supervision of Rutherford.

In 1914, it worked at the Victoria university with Wellington, New Zealand. It took part in the First World War in France as a royal engineer.

After the war, he became the most important scientist in New Zealand. He founded off the Department Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) in 1926 and particularly organized his research in the sector of the Agriculture.

During the Second world war, Marsden worked on the development of the Radar S. In 1947 it became scientific liaison officer to London and chair Royal Society of New Zealand.

He dies in Wellington in 1970.
