Ernest III of Saxony-Hildburghausen
Ernest III of Saxony-Hildburghausen , born with Gotha the June 12th 1655, deceased with Hildburghausen the October 17th 1715.
He was duke of Saxony-Hildburghausen and founder of the ducal House of Saxony-Hildburghausen.

Ernest III of Saxony-Altenburg married the November 30th 1680 Sophie de Waldeck (dead in 1702), (girl of Georges de Waldeck).

Ernest III of Saxony-Hildburghausen founded the fourth branch of the Maison of Wettin, it belonged to the branch Ernestin E founded by Ernest of Saxony.
With died of his/her father occurred in 1675, Ernest III of Saxony-Hilburghausen jointly controlled with his/her brothers the duchy. At the time of the division of the grounds signed in 1680, the towns of Hildburghausen, Helburg, Königsberg échurent in Ernest III of Saxony-Hildburghausen. By this division he became the founder of the branch of Saxony-Hildburghausen (fourth branch of the Maison of Wettin), it died out in 1991. With died from his/her brothers Henri (1710) and Albert (1699) deceased without heirs, Ernest III of Saxony-Hilburghausen accepted the towns of Sonnefeld and Behringen.
Ernest III of Saxony-Hilburghausen undertook great work for its castle of HIlburghausen. In 1710, it gave to refuge to Protestant families Frenchwoman driven out by the Édit of Nantes (October 17th 1685).
It took part in the Bataille of Vienna in 1683, to the battles of Gran and Neuhaeusel, then entered to the service of the Dutchmen. With the rank of colonel it took part in the battle of Kaiserwerth.
