Ernest Hébert French painter of the 19th century born with Grenoble in 1817 and died with the Mug in 1908.

From the Dauphine of origin, Ernest Hébert will settle with Rome at the 22 years age. It will paint primarily the Roman campaign with much luminosity. He will become an official painter of the Second Empire on his return in France, then will be named director of the Villa Médicis.

He had been boarder of the Villa Médicis of 1840 with 1844 and of the Academy from France to Rome of 1867 with will be director 1873.

Works

Of 1875 with 1884, it carries out the mosaic of the apse of the the Pantheon of Paris, representing Christ showing with the angel of France the destinies of its people.

Hébert museum

The property of the artist with the Mug (Isere) was transformed into museum deprived by his wife in 1934. Given in 1979 to the General advice of Isere by Rene Patris-d' Uckermann, wire adoptive of Gabrielle Hébert, the house of the artist and the contiguous museum come to be rénovés.
The museum presents, in a chronological course and set of themes, the work of Hébert, an academic painter having crossed the 19th century and of paintings and the sculptures of his/her friends or pupils.

There exists also a Hébert museum in Paris
