Ernest Gouin or Goüin , is an engineer polytechnician, Saint-Simonian, born on July 22nd, 1815 with Tours (Indre-et-Loire), deceased in 1885.

Manufacturer of engines, metallic bridges and railway infrastructures, founder of the Company of construction of Batignolles.

Construction of engines

It directs from 1839 to 1845 the workshops of the railroad of Paris to Saint-Germain, then it will supplement its technical training in the large English workshops. It is in charge of the control of the machines ordered with the workshops of Sharp to Manchester by the Compagnie of the railroad from Paris to Orleans.

In 1846, it founds its own company, Ernest Gouin & Co, in the small village of the Batignolles, in the north of Paris, currently between the streets Boulay and Emile-Level.
Il launches out in the manufacture of locomotive and machines of spinning mill.
Cette company employs then to two thousand workmen.

Steel construction and railway infrastructures

In 1849, it introduces in France the technique of the Pont S in Tôle riveted. It diversifies the activities of its company, which becomes in 1867 the Société of Construction of Batignolles, (today Spie Batignolles), towards the sectors of the steel Construction and the railway infrastructures.
