Ernest Candèze

Ernest Charles Auguste Candèze is a Médecin and a Belgian Entomologiste amateur , born the February 22nd 1827 with Liege and dead the June 30th 1898 with Glain.

He studies in Liege near Theodore Lacordaire (1801-1870). He makes studies of Médecine in Paris and Liege. On the councils of Lacordaire, it bases the circle of the entomologists inhabitant of Li2ege whom his old friend attends, Félicien Chapuis (1824-1879) but also Edmond de Sélys Longchamps (1813-1900) and the British Robert Mac Lachlan (1837-1904). It takes part in the foundation of the Belgian royal Société of entomology.

It is Lacordaire which encourages it to specialize on the Élatéride S on which it publishes important revisions of which Monographie of Elateridae (four volumes, Liege, 1857-1863). Friend of the French editor Pierre-Jules Hetzel (1814-1886) orders to him to write scientific novels in order to popularize entomology near more many people: Adventures of a cricket (Paris, 1877), Gileppe, misfortunes of a population of insects (Paris, 1879), which is a certain success, and Périnette, surprising history of five sparrows… (Paris, 1886).

Also impassioned Photography, it develops a foldable camera which is a great success in Europe (and which it presents in its book the Scenographer, camera of pocket… , Paris, 1875)
