Ernest Backes

Ernest Backes was born with Trier in 1946. From 1977 to 1983, it was the number three and the person in charge of the data processing of the international clearing house Cedel International, based with Luxembourg. Then, he worked at AIM, a Luxembourg investment company. In 1988, he would have been Miss with the Affaire Péchiney-Triangle.

He is then associated to the Swiss banker André Strebel in the structure IWR Institut für Wirtschaftsrecherchen based with Saarbrucken.

At the time of the investigation into the murder of Roberto Calvi, as a ex-number 3 of the clearing house Clearstream, it has to testify in connection with transfers of funds for the benefit to the Banco Ambrosiano. According to him, its dismissal of Clearstream would have been connected to its knowledge financial activities of the Ambrosiano Bank value, which held accounts not published in the Luxembourg room of Clearing, in particular concerning subsidiary companies in Peru and in Latin America.

The Clearstream business

  • the Luxembourg banker, Ernest Backes was laid off by Cedel International renamed Clearstream in 1983.

  • It gathered thousands of files compromising on its employer. They describe a gigantic dirty money boiler in which tens of international large banks would soak. The system, technically complex, is based on a simple mechanism: the company of financial equalization, which then treats annually 150 million transactions and whose shareholders are more the large banks of planet, is suspected of having founded occult circuits via a string of secret accounts, called “not published”. Ernest Backes delivers its confidences to the journalist Denis Robert. The two men exploit the files of Cedel. In fate a first book, Révélation$ , which puts fire at the powders. Not less 8  000 accounts of Clearstream, including 57 French, are flushed out within the Luxembourg company. They belong to a multitude of banks. Clearstream is denied any operation of bleaching.

  • February 2001: the socialist deputies French Vincent Peillon and Arnaud Montebourg, respectively president and rapporteur of the French parliamentary mission on bleaching, announce a series of hearings devoted to Clearstream.

  • March 1st, 2001: left the book Révélation$ and first diffusion of the film the Dissimulators on Canal+ with 22:00. Clearstream notified in Canal+ its opposition to the diffusion of the report, mentioning that it carries reached to its reputation.

  • March 2001: hearing of Ernest Backes and Denis Robert by the French parliamentary mission. Clearstream and of the banks blamed in the book deposit a series of complaints against the authors and the editor.

  • Ernest Backes was the source of the journalist Denis Robert for the denunciation of supposed illicit activities of Clearstream. Ernest Backes denounced a system of accounts not published set up in the years 1970 and generalized after its departure. This system, parallel with the legal system of interbank Compensation, could make of Clearstream a world platform of tax avoidance and Money laundering.

  • Ernest Backes and Denis Robert has Co-writing the book Révélation$ , published into 2001 with the editions the Arenas and always discussed.
