Erik Zabel

Erik Zabel is a German racing cyclist born the July 7th 1970 with Berlin in Germany. It measures 1m76 for 69kg.

Biography

Erik Zabel grows with East Berlin and after good performances among amateurs, it passes professional in 1992 with the German team Union-Frondenberg. In 1993, it integrates the TEAM Telekom become T-Mobile in 2004. In 2005, it is isolated of the T-Mobile team taking part in the Tour de France in the name of a strategy aiming at playing the chart of Jan Ulrich, unfortunate candidate with the final victory, it then decides to leave the T-Mobile to join the new team TEAM Milram in company of Italian Alessandro Petacchi.

Very competitive and very rapid at the time of the sprints, Erik Zabel is a legend of cycling, very famous for its professionalism, he is regarded as one of the best sprinters of end of the year 90 and gains 6 times the green shirt of the Tour de France. He counts very many victories with his prize list. Its principal fellow-member in the sprints was often his friend Rolf Aldag, from now on sport director of the T-Mobile.

In 2006, Zabel collected places of honor once again. Already 10 times second and 15 times third! With old of 36ans, it finished 2nd Championnats of the World to Salzburg behind Paolo Bettini. But it nevertheless obtained 3 successes including two victories of stages over the Tour of Spain.

Following the consents of former racing cyclists of the team Deutsche Telekom. May 24th, 2007, Erik Zabel acknowledges with the press to be doped in 1996 but to have " decree after one week of catch because of the secondaires" effects;.
