Erik Schinegger
Erik Schinegger , born the June 19th 1948 with Agsdorf (Carinthie), is a alpine skier Austrian.
Biography
Erik Schinegger was regarded as a woman because of a bad sexual conformation. Under the name of “Erika Schinegger”, it became champion () world of descent in 1966 and gained a victory in world cup of ski in 1967 (giant of Saint-Gervais).A medical test practiced at the time of the winter 1967 establishes that Erika was a man: its sex had developed inside and it had thus not been identified correctly during long years. It then decided to be made operate and to change its first name of Erika into Erik. He Maria and became father of a little girl, Claire.
In 1988, Erik Schinegger, in collaboration with Marco Schenz, wrote a book, the Man who was world champion: my victory over myself , in which he tells his life. This book had a great success, especially in its French translation.
Erik Schinegger directs a school of ski for children in his native commune, Agsdorf in Carinthie.
