Eric Thompson (pilot)

Eric David Thompson is a former bookseller of rare books, insurance broker and pilot of automobile race English born the November 4th 1919 with Ditton Hill.

Biography

Having mainly earned its living as insurance broker to the Lloyd' S of London, Thompson belonged to the racing stable Aston Martin of 1949 with 1953.

It took part that at a Grand Prix of Formule 1 cash for the championship of the world the July 19th 1952 with the Grand Prix of Great Britain. On the basis of the 9th position of the grid, it finishes in a beautiful 5th place, but with 3 turns of the winner. Thanks to this result, it marks 2 points with the Championship of the World. It also ran in 4 races except championships. Its best result was carried out by gaining the courne out-championship Redex Trophy with Snetterton in 1953 at the wheel of a standard Connaught has on behalf of the stable RRC Walker Raning TEAM .

Parallel to its career in the single-seater, it takes part in races of sport scars and endurance.
It took part in 7 editions of the 24 hours of Mans with one 3rd place in 1951, it obtains the same result with the Tourist Trophy with Dumdrod in 1953 and gains the 9 hours of the BARC to Goodwwod.

After its retirement of racing driver, it concentrates on its work of insurance broker to the Lloyd' S, before directing its career in rare littérarure towards the mechanical sports as a bookseller.
