Eric Schlosser

Eric Schlosser is a writer and American Journaliste born on August 14th, 1959. It is known for its Journalisme of investigation. With the United States, it is often compared with Upton Sinclair, for its with dimensions “excavates shit” ( muckraker in English) in the manner of carrying out its investigations. It could be compared in France with Pierre Carles. Its most known work is Fast Food Nation , an investigation into the manufacture of what is called in French the Malbouffe.

Biography

Eric Schlosser was born with Manhattan then passed his childhood to Seattle. His/her father, Herbert Schlosser, were a lawyer with Wall Street then became president of NBC in 1974. Schlosser is married in Shauna Redford, girl of Robert Redford. He studied the history of America to the Université of Princeton.

Beginning of career in journalism

Eric Schlosser started his career in journalism in the monthly magazine The Atlantic Monthly with Boston. He quickly gained in recognition for his Journalisme of investigation by gaining two important prices in less than two years. He gained the National Magazine Award in 1994 per two of his articles Reefer Madness and Marijuana and the law . He then gained in 1995 the Sidney Hillman Foundation Award for his article In the strawberry fields .

Later, Schlosser works for various newspapers like Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, The Nation and The New Yorker.

Edition of several books

Its most known work is gathered in its bestseller Fast Food Nation published in 2001, an investigation in the medium of the Fast-food industry. Schlosser denounces in its book inter alia the discriminatory practices and handling relating to the industry of the fast food. It then helped the realizer Richard Linklater in order to adapt his book to a Docu fiction left in November 2006 called also Fast Food Nation . This film had a very important success in the United States, the daily newspaper The NewYork Times described this film like “the most important political film carried out in the United States since Fahrenheit 9/11 of Michael Moore”. Schlosser is the Co-scenario writer and the executive producer of film.

In 2003, Eric Schlosser leaves a new book, Reefer Madness , another investigation, that Ci about the black-markets on the ground of the the United States, particularly those of the Marijuana, the Migrating labor and of the Pornographie.

In 2006, it publishes a book intended for the children, Chew one this , of which the goal is to inform the children on the dangers that the abuse fast food can create.

Schlosser appears in an interview granted on the DVD of Super Size Me of Morgan Spurlock discussing with the realizer about industry the fast food. Schlosser refused to even appear in the documentary one, besides it does not make very rare appearances in public and in the media.

He lives now in California and works on his future book, an investigation on the system of the prisons to the the United States.
