Electronic edition

Eric Flint is noted as writer of the free library of Baen which was an experiment in the electronic edition (eBooks in uncoded formats) where Flint and Jim Baen convinced of the authors to put free copies entirely not protected from various from their work for the remote loading by Internet. Started as an experiment to see whether this would increase the sales of their books or their electronic editions (paying), Flint with published semi-periodically during the first two years series of tests, in party Blog and in party letters with the writer assembling the evolution of the experiment and supporting the practice.

Financially, that had to be a success for the editor Baen Books, because they applied the publication of eBook for all their books. Usually eighty to hundred titles are available in the free library of Baen to any hour. In the majority of the cases, implied work is the first volumes of series in progress, “to open the appetite”, the readers being able to be likely to buy posterior work of the same series. As not additional one can buy individually or subscribe to a monthly collection of five books in a pack right before or at the beginning of the pre-publication at Baen. One can also buy the “advanced copies of reader” ( Advanced Reader Copies or ARC) who, for the most popular series, form usually part of the pre-publication, but are also available individually to the purchase. It is the result of an successful experience with a eMagazine on line, called the gazette of Grantville.

As well in the case of the ARC as of the Gazettes, 4 months before the programmed date of publication, approximately a third of work is at the disposal of the readers buying L advanced peek (advanced glance). One month later, the second third, follow-up of the last third, available approximately a month on average, before the printed book. The ARC have errors of drafting, and are not entirely completed on the level of working, however, after the book is published, the readers having subscribed are entitled to the final version of the eBook without additional load.

  • the Gazette of Grantville :

the Gazette of Grantville started like an experiment (eMagazine) gathering in anthologies of the fictions and non-fiction written by fans as it is the case for the articles of encyclopedia.
These articles, which include sections of reference, were developed by various sub-committee of, very abstract, Comité of Research on 1632 and the returns (reactions and criticisms) received on forum Internet 1632 Tech Manual , which makes party of the forum Baen Bar of the Baen editions. These tests and returns were interesting for the development of the universe and with the intervention of established authors - a massive case of collaboration of writing - was partly responsible for the development on the forum of making Baen from committees of research to contribute to the evolution of this universe (as for wiki), and submitting the results to the examination and the critics on 1632 Comments or 1632 Tech Manual . These is a continuous process which car-discusses, just as the exploitation of the aforementioned research and the writing of the anthologies.
Until volume VI, the Gazettes eMagazine were published by Eric Flint helped of a voluntary office of drafting, of which many members had narrowly helped it in the design of the development of the universe, while establishing and while making evolve/move the canonical Web site 1632.org and by carrying out many research leading to the decisions of collaboration.
while using its assistance and direct employee now, Paula Goodlett, like second writer, Flint keeps the control leading of the universe 1632 and all the intellectual property laws.
the anthologies of the Gazette of Grantville are also published by Baen, started with a publication like eMagazine arranged in series on more than three months, follow-ups of the publication of ebook (downloadable in various electronic formats) on the site of sale of the edition Baen, Webscription.net, and an edition in the form of book general public of the first exit was published like experiment in November 2004. The first impression was completely sold, and of the republications followed. The second number was published in the form of book at the beginning of March 2006, and was also well sold.
