Eric Bischoff
Eric Bischoff (born the May 27th 1955), is a known personality of the Catch to have been leading of the World Championship Wrestling and to have incarnated later the role of General Manager of division '' RAW '' of the World Wrestling Entertainment.
Before wrestling
Bischoff was small a fan of wrestling in the surroundings of Detroit. He and its family moved thereafter with Pittsburgh right before its entry with the Lycée, when it started to practice the Lutte for the account of its school. Bischoff from went away to Mineapolis, where it continued its career in the fight amateur until it undergoes a wound with a knee. Little time after having left the school to follow its interests in the business, it was interested in the Taekwondo, becoming girdles black, and making small competitions through the country. Before entering the businesses of wrestling, Bischoff had other occupations. It held a company in right track of construction, working as an assistant Vétérinaire, and for a time a Boucherie held. Hulk Hogan referred there in a promotion at the end of the pay-per-view of the WCW in 1996, Bash At the Beach , saying: " If Hulk Hogan did not exist, Eric Bischoff would remain to sell meat in Minneapolis."
American Wrestling Association (AWA)
Bischoff began its career in wrestling in the Eighties on behalf of the American Wrestling Association (AWA). Eric was advertiser after having been initially in station in marketing (Verne Gagne said that he thought that Eric " had a good glance for television, " but its advertisements at that time, according to Bischoff itself, were obviously poor). As opposed to what everyone thinks, Eric affirmed that it implied forever in the decisions of the federation.
World Championship Wrestling (WCW)
In 1991, Bischoff joined the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) as an advertiser, beginning with the Great American Bash. After the chief of the WCW Bill Watts was transfered by the leader of TBS Bill Shaw in 1993, Bischoff was going to see Shaw and the Vice-president of the WCW Bob Dhue to ask for the work of executive producer. Although Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone seemed beings the two candidates favorite, Shaw and Dhue leant towards Bischoff. Schiavone remained producer until the disappearance of the federation, but Ross was released soon by Bischoff and from went away to the rival, the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). In 1994, Bischoff became Vice-Président, and did the housework with the WCW. It in particular transfered the Manager Don Sandefeur, the Vice-president junio Jim Barnett, and its former owner Bob Dhue, all the same day (on its Internet site, Bischoff denied this affirming that Sandefeur and Dhue did not make them mention). In 1996, Bill Shaw was re-employed by the WCW, leaving Eric with the title of Executive Vice-president/General Manager, and in 1997, Bischoff was promoted President of World Championship Wrestling by the director of TBS, Dr. Harvey Schiller.Bischoff convinced Turner and the direction to invest more money and to enter in competition with the WWF. Immediately it used the money that one gave him by signing large stars like Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and much of others coming from the WWF. It invested more money in the production and added Pay-per-view S (initially 7 per year, then 10, and finally one per month, which will do the WWF thereafter). These plans paid, and in 1995 the WCW carried out a profit for the first time.
Monday Nitro

During a meeting of the WCW in 1995, Ted Turner required of Bischoff how the federation could enter in competition with the WWF. Bischoff, considered the question, and suggested in Turner putting a television program in Prime time against the Monday Night RAW of the WWF. At that time, the only show for the WCW was WCW Saturday Night , which was diffused saturdays with 18:05, and up to now there was no competition direct between the WCW and the WWF for the televiewers. With surprised of much in the industry of wrestling, Turner, and to Bischoff a one hour horraire in premium time gave accepted every Monday on TNT (in 1996, thanks to the large audiences, the format passed to 2 a.m., and 3 in 1998).
Bischoff has creates and produces the new show, WCW Monday Nitro, and sold the federation as being a good alternative to the WWF. Whereas the episodes of RAW were recorded for certain weeks in advance, Nitro was diffused on line each week, which made it possible Bischoff to give the results of RAW to encourage the televiewers to remain. In its book ( Controversy Creates Ca$h ), Bischoff describes the appearance of Nitro as being a total alternative to the WWF. RAW turned to the young public, therefore Nitro turned to the category of the men of 18-35 years. RAW included/understood many characters " cartoon" , whereas Nitro started to integrate characters with more depth.
Because the WCW and TNT belonged both to Turner, Bischoff could begin Nitro a few minutes earlier than RAW , so that the fans who had chosen RAW remain on Nitro. With the money arrival, Bischoff started to sign all-in wrestlers coming from the whole world, including those of the All Japan and New Japan, to fill bottom of chart with more action.
The plan functioned, Nitro beat RAW in their first head with head and remained with the neck and neck with the WWF for the remainder of the year.

In 1996, Bischoff revealed that the superstar WWF Scott Hall, more known under the name of " Razor Ramon" , the WWF left to join the WCW. Hall was joined soon by Kevin Nash, more known as a " Diesel" , to become " The Outsiders ". The duet was represented like invading the WCW in favor of the WWF to begin a " guerre" between els two federations (although Bischoff later was obliged to explain why Hall and Nash did not represent and were not under contract with the WWF).
The Outsiders increased and became the New World Order when the favorite eternal of the fans Hulk Hogan joined the Outsiders. Carried out by the storyline of the nWo, the WCW replaced the WWF as a federation of wrestling number one in America with Monday Nitro by beating Monday Night RAW in the audiences for 84 weeks consecutive. With this, Bischoff left its post of commentator for that of a manager to the nWo.
Fall of the WCW
And yet, in January 1999 the chance turned. The WWF, marked by its news " Attitude" , a WCW beat regularly incredibly stagnant week after week in the war of the audiences. The January 4th 1999, a Nitro on line was envisaged to be diffused at the same time as RAW which was recorded. During what was the night of reference of the " Monday Night Wars, " Bischoff ordered with Tony Schiavone to say this remark, " And we understand that Mick Foley, which fought for us as Cactus Jack, will gain their championship of the world. Wow! Maintaining that will put of it more than one bottom at terre." The intentions of Bischoff were to waste the hand vent, removing with the fans the interest to look at Raw and to remain on Nitro . In the place, the Nielsen audiences showed that during the minutes of the advertisement, nearly 300.000 spectators changed chain for RAW to be able to see the change of title (the WCW was at the head in the audiences until the remark of Schiavone). Although both show beat their record of audience in fifteen minutes, Nitro lost much thereafter with famous Fingerpoke off Doom, which became revolving in the " Guerres" (even if the audiences of Nitro remained very solid, in the 4.5/5, Nitro beat never again RAW in the audiences).Frustrated and out of oneself, Bischoff lost its arrogance. It disappeared from the televised shows, and started to look for a departure of the WCW, often missing shows, to give ideas that it has with producers with Hollywood, being introduced by his friend Jason Hervey as a " The gold man which saved the catch." While it looked at elsewhere, Bischoff left Kevin Nash and Craig Leathers the producer of Nitro , in load of the WCW, and the audiences fell. Many fans quote this period like that where the storylines and the production of Nitro started to be degraded.
When Bischoff returned from its leave in April 1999 (Bischoff officially took 6 weeks of rest, according to certain sources on Internet at the time for " to deal with his/her daughter in vacance"), the federation was in bad posture, and the solution of Bischoff to invest more money created even more problems. It tried without success to extend the WCW apart from wrestling with a restaurant called Nitro Grill (which was going to last less than one year), a mark of Cologne, and broad range of video games on Playstation. The stories were confused and special appearances of Master P, Chad Brock (itself old a jobber of the WCW), KIS, and Megadeth (paid between 200,000 - 500,000 $ each one for a song) removed even more interest with the fans to look at the program.
Bischoff at the beginning of the end of the WCW
All the plans were suspended when the September 10th 1999, Bischoff was raised of its post office to the WCW (by telephone, in the manner whose Bischoff transfered a certain number of all-in wrestlers) by the president of TBS Sports, Dr. Harvey Schiller, although the official decision was made by the leaders of Time Warner. In August, the WCW projettait heavy losses for the months to come, a meeting was held between the leaders of the WCW and those of TBS. The leader of this meeting was Dr. Schiller, who evoked the possibility of transfering Bischoff. A few hours after the meeting was completed, the producers of the WCW Gary Juster and James J. Dillon tried a blow, energy to directly see their owner of Time Warner to obtain the retrogradation of Bischoff, and with surprised of all, they obtained it. Bischoff was replaced at its station by Bill Busch (the title of " President of the WCW, " who was creates specifically for Eric Bischoff, was withdrawn, with in the place the old title of Executive Vice-president) and they even combine even further by banishing Bischoff of the buildings of the WCW. A length coucours one month for a million $ and one concert of KIS envisaged in a statement were planned for the December 31st 1999 but were cancelled like the idea to make a Cartoon on Nitro.Much in the federation was shocked to see leaving Bischoff, in spite of the level which it reached which because its departure. Despite everything these failures, he was the only manager with the image of a WCW in success, and in less than one year was regarded as the king in the business of wrestling. In addition to that, it always was in good term with the leaders of Turner Broadcasting and Ted Turner itself, which shared the vision of the wrestling of Bischoff. This last lost a support of weight when the role of Turner to Time Warner was tiny room as a simple member of the direction. Change atit not mentioned in the programs of the WCW. The site of the WCW affiramit which it would have more information on the impliquation of Bischoff in the weeks to come, but the federation quickly seemed ready to forget it. All the images and references to Bischoff were withdrawn from the programs of the WCW.
However, in less than six months, Bill Busch was seen withdrawn its capacity. Busch, according to the book of Bischoff, belonged to its men who did not have the least idea how it is necessary to direct a federation of wrestling. In spite of its occupation of accountant, the WCW continued to be inserted in the red, even more than under its predecessors (with the exception of Bischoff). To make the things even more worrying, the audiences which were good under the Bischoff era, started to tumble down. The substitute of Busch was Brad Siegel, a producer of Time Warner. The first act of Siegel was to require of Eric what pouvat to be made to save the federation, and this is why, Bischoff briefly returned to the capacity in April 2000, but not as a president; in the place, it was named producer, and became équipié with the creative director, Vince Russo. Unhappy with scripts the Russo one (that Bischoff was going later to describe like " sink, cheap, and créativement little profond"), Bischoff left the federation at the end of six weeks; Russo by consequence took the control of all the decisions, whereas John Laurinaitis became manager.
Attempt at purchase of the WCW
Later in 2000, the WCW was to be sold following all the financial problems. Brad Siegel continued its work, and its new owner with the AOL Time Warner was from now on the old one directing WB Network, Jamie Kellner, which wanted to separate from the federation. In the Turner era, the WCW was always regarded as a sport, but the new direction did not see the things in the same way, and wanted to thus withdraw the program.Bischoff and a group of investors, named Fusient Media Ventures, signed a letter of intent of purchase of the federation, but it went into reverse later when Kellner cancelled Nitro (Bischoff affirmed that " the purchase was to border the 67 million $"). Without the interest of Fusient, the WCW was sold with the World Wrestling Federation for a largely less price, worthy of a pay (roughly 2 million $) which was concluded in March 2001. Bischoff withdrew some time of wrestling to work on other projects with the TV. It produced several emission of Télé reality but also signed as a president de Matrats, a recent company of wrestling.
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)
In 2002, Bischoff was enlisted by the World Wrestling Entertainment to be the General Manager of RAW , a part which he played until the end of 2005. Its beginning as GM of RAW was enough inatendue. Bischoff brought its personal key to this role of GM, playing again its arrogant character of heel that it carried out with wonder as a chief of the nWo with the WCW.Its reign as GM was longest of the history of the WWE and inculait some " innovations" like the " Raw Roulette" (a wheel with various possibilities of matches above), and the Elimination Chamber, just like a competition with Steve Austin, John Cena, the GM of '' SmackDown! '' Stephanie McMahon, and the representative of the Extreme Championship Wrestling Paul Heyman.
Bischoff was " renvoyé" of its post of General Manager at the end of 2005, when Vince McMahon sent it in a truck to refuse - following a " procès" where its not very scrupulous stories and actions were listed - and was held apart from the arena. Bischoff was withdrawn and started with the beginning of the year 2006 to write a book which became Controversy Creates Cash . Although much believed that its contract expired for its sabbatical period, Bischoff recently confirmed on a radio program that it is still under contract with the WWE until September 2007.

During its promotion, Bischoff affirmed that " Without Monday Nitro , there would be no Monday Night RAW … without the nWo, it did not auait there a DX… and without Eric Bischoff, there would be no Mr. McMahon." After the personal attack towards McMahon at the end of its sentence, the microphone of Bischoff was cut, and he was escorted apart from the building.
A few days later, John Bradshaw Layfield carried out an interview in four parts with Bischoff, speaking in particular about its book, on WWE.com. During the interview, Bischoff spoke about subjects varied, like its opinions réeles towards Lex Luger, its opinion on the promoter of the ECW Paul Heyman, its debatable decision to have given to Kevin Nash of the capacities in the decisions, and its general opinion on the Monday Night Wars. Controversy Creates Ca$h was available to the sale on store Internet of the WWE on October 3rd, that is to say two weeks before its exit. The book east appeared in the list of the best sellers of the NewYork Times . Bischoff was chosen by the fans like the special referee of the combat D-Generation X vs. Edge and Randy Orton with Cyber Sunday the November 5th, with 60% of the voices. He cheated towards the DX, leaving Orton and Edge as winners.
At the time of the edition of RAW of the November 6th, Bischoff was again General To eat for only one evening. For its period as GM of RAW , it made start again matches of which it did not like the exit. It made start again the match Jeff Hardy vs. Johnny Nitro for the Intercontinental title. Hardy carried it by DQ, but Bischoff made started again the match without DQ. Nitro took the advantage of that, using Melina to distract Hardy and to strike it with the belt. Nitro gained the title thanks to Eric Bischoff who thought that Nitro " méritait" the title. Hardy recovered the title however the following week with RAW .
The March 5th 2007, Bischoff made a short appearance with RAW with Phoenix, Arizona to deliver to Vince McMahon its opinion on the match against Donald Trump with WrestleMania 23 .
