Eriador
In the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, Eriador is a great area of the Ground of the Medium. With the Second Age, and perhaps even earlier, this area was still covered with forests, but the Dúnedain largely deforested it to build ships. Most of this area was included with the kingdom of Arnor, at the beginning of the Third Age, to be then divided between the rival kingdoms of Rhudaur, Arthedain and Cardolan. The Comté occupies part of the old kingdom of Arthedain, while surrounding Bree and its villages is on the border of old Cardolan.
Its borders were:
- In the East, the Misty Mounts
- In North, the Bay of Ice of Forodwaith, of which the flooded part of the grounds of Morgoth after the Great battle which marked the end of the First Age
- In the West, the mountains of Ered Lindon
- In the South, Gray the Flot river and the Country of Enedwaith.
