Ergué-Armel
Very old parish on a plate dominating the city of Quimper to which it was attached in 1960 after being set up in commune in 1790. The parish of Locmaria had been assistant there. The church of the borough dedicated to Holy Alor date of XVIe century, but the church prieurale of Locmaria goes back to XIe and could succeed a monastery following the rule of Saint Colomban and placed under the patronage of holy Tudy which is also Tugdual, Tutuarn or Pabu. This district of Locmaria is also the probable seat of the modest Gallo-Roman agglomeration.
In the district of the Braden were found important traces of Gallic agricultural establishments.
Locmaria is always the seat of important a Faïence laughs tercentenary born at the presence of the clay of Toulven with a few kilometers.
The vast campaign still includes/understands farms, whose one Cidre laughs, but moves back in front of the fast expansion of the industrial and commercial parks of Large-Guélen, Kerdroniou and the road of Bénodet. Between this axis and the loop which the Odet starts before setting out again full south, is the zone of Creac' H Gwenn (into Breton: “White or crowned Hill”) where many activities were established since 1975: a vast retail park with hotels and restaurants, of many office buildings, the university campus and of the sporting installations.
The sight in balcony on widening of maritime Odet that one calls the bay of Kérogan and the background of the wood of Keradennec contribute to the approval of the site, which did not have escaped with the bishops of Quimper who had there a residence of summer in the castle of Lanniron. At the beginning of the XXe century, part of the shore had been called “the beach of gueux”, because all the small people of Quimper came there Sunday.
More recently, the East-West axis, of the old borough with Locmaria, became a major axis gathering, the Laënnec hospital, a technical school, a market with the sports and a library with the back of the town hall-appendix in with respect to the more and more urbanized district of Braden.
